Berlin. FIBA, basketball’s world governing body, has announced that Japan will host the 2030 Women’s Basketball World Cup and France will host the 2031 Men’s Basketball World Cup. Tokyo will host the 2030 tournament from November 26 to December 8, according to FIBA. The 2031 event will take place from August 29 to September 14 in the French cities of Lille, Lyon and Paris.
“The FIBA World Cups have become synonymous with success, largely because choosing the right host every time is a cornerstone of our mission to make basketball the most popular sports community,” said Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Secretary General. He said this when FIBA’s Central Board met in Berlin to decide on the respective bids.
Japan will host women’s tournament for the first time
Earlier it had organized the Men’s World Championship in 2006, after which in 2010 FIBA changed the name of this competition to World Cup. France has not hosted any FIBA World Cup yet.
