Political temperature has once again risen in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. After the alleged assault on Dalits in Narayanpur Chhanga village and the dispute over the Ambedkar statue, the Samajwadi Party (SP) delegation going there was stopped by the police with great alertness. After this action of the administration, along with tension, politics has also heated up in the area.

MP and MLA detained by police

SP leaders, who had set out to share the pain of the suffering Dalit families in Narayanpur Chhanga village, were stopped midway by the police. Moradabad’s newly elected MP Ruchiveera was forced to stay at Pashupati Guest House in Thakurdwara, while Thakurdwara’s local MLA Nawabjan was put under ‘house arrest’ at his home. Due to this tremendous siege by the police administration, SP workers and leaders could not unite at one place.

What is the whole controversy? Birthday party and car parking affair

Actually, this entire incident happened on the night of 17th April. BJP leader Ajay Pratap Singh’s birthday was being celebrated in Narayanpur Chhanga village of Thakurdwara police station area. It is alleged that some guests who came to the party had parked their cars near the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar located in the village. When people from the Dalit community protested against car parking near the statue, the matter escalated and within no time the dispute turned into a bloody conflict.

Allegations of assault, firing and damage to the statue

The victim’s side alleges that BJP leader Ajay Pratap and his supporters got angry over the removal of the car. It is alleged that they beat up people of Dalit community, dragged women from their homes, beat them up and also fired several rounds to spread terror. Not only this, the villagers also alleged that the statue of Baba Saheb was also damaged during this uproar.

Police action and SP’s counterattack

In this case, the police have registered a case on the complaint of both the parties. A report has been registered against BJP leader Ajay Pratap Singh, his brother and other supporters and investigation has been started. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party had formed an 11-member investigation team to meet the victims. SP District President Jaiveer Yadav told that the police stopped him at Tikonia Thakurdwara and arrested him. SP says that the government is stopping the opposition from raising the voice of the victims, while the administration is calling it an exercise to maintain peace.
