Tezzbuzz Desk – The voting process for the assembly elections 2026 was successfully completed in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Voting was held on 152 seats in the first phase in West Bengal, while voting was held on all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu in a single phase. Voting, which started at 7 am, continued till 6 pm, although voters standing in the queue were allowed to vote even after this.
Voting took place in 16 districts during this phase in West Bengal, where the fate of a total of 1,478 candidates was sealed in the EVMs. According to the Election Commission, about 3.60 crore voters got the right to vote, which included 1.84 crore men, 1.75 crore women and 465 voters of the third gender.
However, reports of tension also emerged from some areas. At many places including Murshidabad, All India Trinamool Congress workers were accused of assault. While voting at a polling booth in Malda, a woman died of cardiac arrest, causing an atmosphere of mourning at the local level.
On the other hand, voting was conducted peacefully on all 234 seats in Tamil Nadu. About 5.73 crore voters got a chance to cast their votes here. This was the first election after the Special Intensive Repetition (SIR), which saw a change in the number of voters compared to the previous one.
Strict arrangements were made in West Bengal for security reasons. Along with the deployment of central forces, all sensitive booths were monitored through CCTV cameras, which helped in keeping the voting process fair and peaceful.
