The Embassy of India in Tehran on Thursday issued a fresh advisory cautioning Indian citizens against travelling to Iran and urging those already in the country to leave at the earliest, citing continued regional tensions and operational uncertainties.
“In view of reports of commencement of some flights between India and Iran… Indian citizens are strongly advised not to travel to Iran, whether by air or land,” the embassy said in its advisory dated April 23, 2026.

The latest warning comes amid a volatile security environment in West Asia, where disruptions to airspace and escalating geopolitical tensions have continued to impact international flight operations to and from Iran.
The advisory noted that “airspace restrictions and operational uncertainties due to regional tensions” remain a key concern.
Reiterating its earlier guidance, the embassy asked all Indian nationals currently in Iran to exit the country through designated land border routes in close coordination with Indian authorities.
“It is further reiterated that all Indian nationals currently in Iran should leave the country… strictly in coordination with the Embassy,” the notice said, providing multiple emergency contact numbers and an email helpline for assistance.

This is the latest in a series of advisories issued by India since February, when hostilities in the region escalated.
New Delhi has consistently urged its citizens to either avoid travel to Iran or exit the country using embassy-approved routes, warning against uncoordinated movement towards international borders due to logistical and security risks.
