In Etawah tehsil of the district, on Thursday, the anti-corruption team took major action and arrested the accountant red-handed, who was demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 in the name of making a birth certificate. The anti-corruption team that came from Basti took this action with complete secrecy. Wasiullah, a resident of Farenda village of Itwa tehsil area, had complained to the team that accountant Arvind was demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 for issuing the birth certificate.
After confirming the complaint, the team laid a trap. On Thursday the complainant was sent to the accountant. It is being told that the accountant’s room was locked from inside. As soon as the complainant came inside on the pretext of finishing the file, the alert team reached the spot and caught him taking bribe. According to eyewitnesses, the team took the accused accountant out of the room and took him straight to Jogia Udaipur police station. After this action there was a stir in the tehsil premises.
No official statement came from the administration till late evening. However, during the action at the police station, many tehsil employees arrived and created a ruckus, declaring the accused innocent. The team clarified that the arrest has been made solely on the basis of solid evidence. Police Station Head Abhay Kumar Singh said that a case has been registered against the accused accountant and further legal action is being taken.
