New direction of urban development

Chandigarh: Punjab government has paid special attention to urban infrastructure. Gleaming roads, effective sanitation and excellent drainage systems have taken cities to new heights of development. The state is witnessing a new era of urban transformation.

From developing infrastructure to simplifying processes and improving citizen services, all efforts are being made to provide better facilities, faster services and higher quality of life to the citizens.

2,120 km of roads are being constructed in municipal corporations and councils at a cost of Rs 1,300 crore, which is targeted to be completed by the end of May 2026. Modern technology is being used to repair potholes on roads before monsoon.

The one-time settlement scheme for reform trusts has been relaunched till April 30, 2026, with a rebate of about 50 per cent on non-construction fees. This will provide financial relief to property owners.

House tax collection for the financial year 2025-26 has reached Rs 600 crore, which was Rs 500 crore last year. This growth reflects the efficiency and transparency of urban local bodies.

Punjab government has allocated Rs 7,257 crore to boost urban infrastructure. There has also been an increase in the Municipal Development Fund (MDF), for which Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated in the next financial year. This fund will be available to all urban local bodies for creation and upgradation of essential civic infrastructure.
