If you are planning to catch a train from New Delhi Station, this news is relevant to you. You should proceed to the station only after familiarizing yourself with the new regulations; otherwise, you may face inconvenience. Indian Railways is implementing a new system to curb unauthorized travel by individuals without tickets. This initiative has already commenced at the New Delhi Railway Station. Under this system, individuals without a valid ticket will be denied entry. In other words, it is now mandatory to possess a ticket—whether reserved or unreserved—to gain access to the station premises.
According to Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railways, an access control system is being installed at New Delhi Railway Station to streamline and improve passenger movement. As part of this initiative, separate entry gates have been designated for passengers holding reserved and unreserved tickets.
Additionally, turnstile gates (designed to facilitate one-way exit) are being installed at the exit points. Currently, this facility is being piloted at Gate No. 9 on the Ajmeri Gate side, where trials for these turnstiles are underway. These gates are intended to manage the flow of passengers exiting the station, thereby ensuring smoother movement.
Railway commercial staff and RPF personnel are now stationed at the entry gates to conduct ticket checks and manage queues. New signage and directional boards are also being installed to enhance passenger convenience. Currently, this facility has been launched as a pilot project at New Delhi Railway Station. According to the CPRO, if this gate system proves successful, it may be implemented at other major railway stations across the country.
The objective of this new system is to reduce overcrowding at the station, enhance passenger convenience, and bolster security. Consequently, individuals without tickets will be denied entry to the station premises. Furthermore, this system will enable the Railways to continuously monitor the number of reserved and unreserved passengers who have entered the station.
