Toxic Work Culture: According to an ILO report, rising work-related stress, long working hours, and job insecurity have now emerged as major threats, leading to the deaths of over 840,000 people every year.

International Labour Organization Report: In today's times, everyone—from those currently employed to the unemployed—is grappling with distress for one reason or another. Employed individuals are battling rising work-related stress, long hours, and job-related anxieties. Whether working from an office or working from home, mental fatigue is becoming an increasingly common issue. A recent report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) highlights precisely this point: such stress is now having a severe impact on the health of millions of people worldwide.

Over 840,000 Deaths Annually

According to the new ILO report, more than 840,000 people worldwide die each year due to work-related psychosocial risks. These risks include issues such as long working hours, job insecurity, and workplace harassment. Titled *The Psychosocial Working Environment: Global Developments and Pathways for Action*, the report states that these risks are linked to heart disease, mental health issues, and even suicide.

The report further notes that this problem is impacting not only the health of employees but also the productivity of organizations and the global economy. Approximately 45 million DALYs (Disability-Adjusted Life Years) are lost annually, and about 1.37 percent of the global GDP is affected by these factors.

What are the ILO's Recommendations?

Developing better policy and regulatory frameworks
Creating a safe and healthy work environment
Strengthening employee participation and collective organization
Focusing on aspects such as workload, control, and fairness

What is the Solution?

To tackle this issue, better coordination between the government and the industry is essential to ensure that appropriate policies are formulated and effectively implemented. Furthermore, workplace monitoring and regular evaluations should be enhanced to ensure that employees' concerns are identified in a timely manner. Most importantly, the work environment must be safe and balanced, so that both the minds and bodies of the employees remain healthy.
