In a match filled with emotion and determination, Chennai Super Kings delivered a memorable win against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 and their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made it clear who the victory was for – teammate Mukesh Choudhary.
Mukesh Choudhary had just faced a personal tragedy, losing his mother earlier in the week. Despite this, he chose to play, showing incredible mental strength. His performance on the field reflected that courage. Bowling during MI’s chase of 208 at Wankhede Stadium, the left-arm pacer made an early impact by dismissing opener Quinton de Kock for just 7 runs in his first over. He continued to maintain tight control, giving away only 15 runs in three Powerplay overs and ending with figures of 1/31 in four overs.
After the match, Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed deep admiration for Mukesh Choudhary’s commitment. He shared that the entire team wanted to win for him, recognising the emotional challenge he overcame to return and play.
To honor his loss, CSK players wore black armbands in memory of his mother Prema Devi who had been battling illness for nearly a year and was undergoing treatment in Mumbai’s Tata Hospital.

Mukesh Choudhary, 29, had briefly traveled to Bhilwara in Rajasthan after the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad before rejoining the squad.
On the scoreboard, CSK dominated completely. They set a massive total of 207, powered by a brilliant century from Sanju Samson, his second of the season. MI struggled early and never fully recovered, despite efforts from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. The result was MI’s biggest defeat by runs in the history of the IPL.
This wasn’t just a win, it was a moment of unity, resilience and heart.
