X (formerly Twitter) is making a major shift in its platform strategy. The company has announced that its Communities feature will be discontinued from May 30, making way for a more advanced, AI-driven system called Custom Timelines.

This change aims to deliver a more personalized, cleaner, and smarter content experience for users.

According to Nikita Bier, the Communities feature failed to gain widespread adoption.

Key reasons behind its shutdown:

• Only 0.4% of users actively used it
• Around 80% of spam reports, including scams and malware, were linked to Communities
• Low engagement combined with high misuse made it unsustainable

Currently, the rollout is limited:
