What is BDSM?
BDSM (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, and sado-masochism) is often seen as “kinky” or “taboo,” but it is much more than that. BDSM involves sexual preferences and a detailed series of sexual preferences. In this the body is tortured in different ways.
Types of BDSM?
- BDSM involves a variety of experiences involving pain and pleasure. This may include these activities:
- Bondage
- Wax (dropping hot wax on the skin)
- Impact (spanking, slapping, whipping)
- Sensation (providing sensation on the skin with feathers, paddles or other tools)
- Sensory deprivation (blindfolding, covering ears, wearing earplugs)
- Power play like master-slave role-playing
Why are people attracted to BDSM?
Throughout history, it has often been believed that people who engage in BDSM have some mental or medical problem. But in 2013, the American Psychiatric Association made changes in the fifth edition of DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and this practice was removed from the taboo. It is now often counted among the different ways of taking pleasure, which occurs during the prelate moment.
What does the research of NIH (National Institute of Health) say?
According to the National Institutes of Health, a large number of people are interested in BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism, and masochism). There have been some cases of fatalities during BDSM activities. A review of published literature was conducted, in which cases of unnatural deaths to BDSM were included.
Can death happen in this?
17 cases were found in this study. The age of the deceased ranged from 23 to 49 years, and the average age was 34.9 years. The most common cause of death was respiratory arrest due to “strangulation” (preventing oxygen from reaching the brain), which was found in 88.2% of the cases. Toxicology reports were available in 13 cases, out of which the presence of drugs or alcohol in the deceased was found in 8 cases (61.5%). In 4 of these cases, the same substances were found in the BDSM partner. 64.3% of fatal cases involved the use of drugs or alcohol. In 9 cases it was also found that both the deceased and their partners were not new to BDSM activities.
Experts say that if safety rules and precautions are followed, the risks associated with BDSM can be reduced to a great extent. Such fatal cases are rare and in most cases they can be prevented.
