News India Live, Digital Desk: ‘Kailash Hills’, a posh area of South Delhi, on Wednesday morning witnessed an incident which put humanity to shame. The 22-year-old promising daughter of a senior IRS officer, who was an IIT Delhi graduate and preparing for UPSC, was brutally murdered by her former domestic help, Rahul Meena. The revelations made in the police investigation are shocking. Once a brilliant student who scored 90% marks in the board exams became a dreaded criminal after getting trapped in the quagmire of online gaming and betting.
‘Poison’ of online gaming: Loan of Rs 7 lakh made a murderer
23 year old accused Rahul Meena is a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan. Investigation revealed that Rahul was so addicted to online games like ‘Teen Patti’ and ‘Ludo’ that he got into debt of about Rs 7 lakh. He planned the robbery to pay off the debt and satisfy his addiction. A day before the incident, he also raped his friend’s wife in Alwar and then reached Delhi after selling three mobile phones. He knew that a lot of cash and jewelery was kept in the house of the IRS officer.
That dreadful scene of death: attacked with a table lamp and then strangulated
The incident took place around 6:30 am on Wednesday, when the victim’s parents had gone to the gym. Rahul had information about the old codes and keys of the house. He went straight to the fourth floor where the victim was studying. When she protested, Rahul first hit her on the head with a table lamp and a water bottle, due to which she became unconscious. After this he raped the victim. The brutality did not stop here; The accused dragged the unconscious girl by her hair to the ground floor so that he could open the biometric locker using her fingerprints. When the locker did not open, he broke it with a screwdriver and after looting Rs 2.5 lakh, he strangulated her to death with a mobile charging cable.
Digital footprint sent to jail: Arrested from Dwarka hotel
After the murder, to hide his identity, Rahul wore the victim’s brother’s clothes and went out in front of CCTV pretending to talk on the phone. Crime Branch of Delhi Police and local police caught him from a hotel in Dwarka with the help of more than 200 CCTV cameras and technical surveillance. Police have recovered the looted cash and jewelery from him. The accused confessed that he did all this only for money so that he could pay off his debt and start betting online again.
Tragic end of brilliant student: Had dream of becoming UPSC topper
The deceased student was not only topper in studies but was also an excellent dancer. He completed his schooling from DPS RK Puram and recently obtained a degree from IIT Delhi. Her father is a senior officer in an important department of the Central Government. This incident has once again raised serious questions on the police verification of domestic helpers and the dangers of increasing online gaming addiction among the youth.
