The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been awaiting the return of their regular captain Pat Cummins for almost a month now. And now it seems their wish is set to be fulfilled as the Australian speedster has hinted at his availability for Saturday’s match against Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Cummins has not played a single match in the IPL 2026 so far because he is recovering from a back stress injury. The lanky fast bowler joined SRH at the start of the IPL but returned to Australia earlier in April to have the scheduled scans to determine the extent of his recovery.

The stress injury sustained in the West Indies last year has forced Cummins to miss all but one international match – he featured in one Test during the home Ashes 2025/26 – since July.

In Cummins’ absence, the SRH unit has picked up momentum under Ishan Kishan. Despite being labeled one of the weakest bowling attacks at the beginning of the tournament, SRH bowlers have exceeded expectations. Under Kishan, the Sunrisers have secured four wins in seven games.

While SRH started slowly, losing three of their first four encounters, the Orange Army is now on a roll, winning three consecutive matches. If they beat RR, they will replace the Royals and slide into the top 3 on the points table.

SRH vs RR: Will Pat Cummins play in SRH’s next match?

Cummins has been cleared by Cricket Australia to play in the IPL. The Australian captain took to Instagram on Friday to confirm his return to action in Saturday’s clash against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.

Cummins posted three pictures of himself in SRH’s training gear and captioned, “Been a long time coming, stinging to get back into it tomorrow.” He will likely replace Dilshan Madushanka in the side.

However, it would be interesting to see whether Cummins takes back the captaincy from Kishan or the latter continues to lead SRH.

“We’re fortunate enough that Pat has been around the group and he’s been able to have conversations with Ishan about his captaincy style,” Daniel Vettori, the SRH head coach, said earlier in the competition.

Cummins had captained SRH to the runners-up finish in IPL 2024 but failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025.
