Dr Mohan Alva selected for Mahaposhaka Award, Polya chosen for Patla Award

Mangaluru: The 11th edition of Patla Sambhrama 2026, organised by the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust, will be held on Saturday, May 30 at Adyar Garden.

The programme will be inaugurated in the morning by Dr Yaji Niranjan Bhat, Dharmadarshi of Pavanje Nagavruja Kshetra. During the formal function scheduled at 11 am, blessings will be delivered by Sri Sachidananda Bharati Swamiji of Edneer Mutt and Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor Kshetra.

Dr Sadashiva Shetty Kanyana will preside over the function, while Dr K Prakash Shetty, Chairman of MRG Group of Companies, Bengaluru, will attend as the chief guest. This information was shared at a press conference by Foundation Honorary President Dr Kanyana Sadashiva Shetty and President Patla Satish Shetty.

The day’s events will begin with Chowki Pooje and Abbara Thaala from 8.30 am to 9 am, followed by a Bharatanatyam performance. In the afternoon, students of Sri Vani School from Pavanje Nagavruja Kshetra will present a yoga demonstration. The programme will also feature women’s Yakshagana and a Yakshagana comedy performance.

This year, the Yakshadhruva Maha Poshaka Award will be presented to Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation. The Patla Award will be conferred on Polya Lakshi Narayana Shetty.

Several dignitaries, including Purushothama Bhandary (Adyar), CA Sudesh Kumar Rai, Savanur Seetharam Rai, Bhujabali (Dharmasthala), Pradeep Alva (Kadri), Ravichandra Shetty, Uday Kumar Shetty, Aarti Alva, Dr M Prabhakara Joshi, and Bala Jagannath Shetty, were present.

Yakshagana education initiative

Under the Trust’s Yakshagana education programme, around 13,248 students from 89 schools across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts are being trained by 51 Yakshagana teachers. So far, 5,234 students have completed their Yakshagana stage debut, Patla Satish Shetty said.

The Trust has undertaken service activities worth Rs 16 crore so far. It has honoured eight artists with Rs 1 lakh each along with silver medals. Under the Patla Yakshashraya scheme, 56 houses have been handed over to artists, while 60 houses are in the final stages of construction.

Financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each has been provided to 210 artists for house repairs. A sum of Rs 50,000 each has been given to 175 needy artists, and honorariums have been extended to 530 artists.

Under the accident insurance scheme, around 2,450 artists receive coverage every year, with up to Rs 60,000 provided for medical expenses and Rs 10 lakh compensation to families in case of accidental death.
