The shoot of the biopic Gungun Kore Mahua , based on the life of legendary Bengali actress Mahua Roy Chowdhury, is currently underway. One of the most significant highlights of the film is the portrayal of veteran actress Sandhya Roy , widely regarded as Mahua’s mentor and guiding force in the industry. Ridhima Ghosh will be seen playing the role of Sandhya.

The cast includes Ankita Mallick playing Mahua in her adult phase and Divyani Mondal in her younger years. Other than that, actor Tathagata Mukherjee will be seen playing the role of superstar Uttam Kumar and Lokenath Dey as her father.

At the peak of her career, Mahua had established an independent presence in the Bengali film industry . Behind this rise was Sandhya, who played a crucial role in shaping her journey as an actress. This biopic will explore their deep professional bond and emotional connection.

Speaking about Mahua in an earlier interview, Sandhya had recalled that she was not only a gifted actress but also was a natural at dancing even without any formal training. Filmmaker Tarun Majumder was particularly impressed by this talent and only at 13 years old she appeared for a look test for a film. Sandhya was entrusted with the responsibility of grooming Mahua by Tarun.

Riddhima has expressed her happiness at being chosen to play this character and she has been studying the heroines of earlier eras and conducting extensive research on the relationship between Sandhya and Mahua.
