Vaibhav Sooryavanshi creates unique record after third 15-ball half century in IPL
Cricket Gully | April 26, 2026 12:39 AM CST

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi registered another landmark in IPL 2026, scoring 87 runs off 33 balls and recording his third half-century in 15 balls or fewer during Rajasthan Royals’ fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday. The 15-year-old reached his fifty in exactly 15 deliveries, becoming the first player globally to achieve the feat three times.

The milestone came in the sixth over when he dispatched SRH pacer Sakib Hussain for a six off a back-of-a-length delivery. With seven sixes and one boundary inside the first 15 balls, the innings reflected sustained attacking intent rather than situational acceleration. His knock placed him ahead of players like Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has two such fifties, while others in the list have only one each.

Early overs define the tempo

Sooryavanshi set the pace from the opening over, targeting Praful Hinge. Facing the same bowler who had dismissed him for a duck in a previous meeting, he responded with four consecutive sixes, collecting 24 runs in the first over. The approach remained consistent against the rest of the bowling unit.

He continued attacking against SRH captain Pat Cummins and Eshan Malinga, hitting a six each without altering his strike rate. The scoring pattern showed no reliance on gaps or rotation, with boundary-hitting dominating the innings. By the end of the powerplay, Rajasthan Royals had already established a high run rate, driven almost entirely by Sooryavanshi’s contributions.

Record context and standings

The innings adds to a growing list of rapid fifties in IPL history. Sooryavanshi now leads the chart for most fifties in 15 or fewer balls, ahead of Fraser-McGurk and others including Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Nicholas Pooran. Despite this, the fastest IPL fifty remains with Jaiswal, who reached the milestone in 13 balls in 2023.

There was no deviation in Sooryavanshi’s method after reaching the half-century, and he is currently batting at 87 off 33 balls. Before the strategic time out, SRH introduced Nitish Kumar who dimissed Dhruv Jurel after a gritty half century.
