A serious accident occurred during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match being played between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday (April 25). DC fast bowler Lungi Ngidi got badly injured while attempting a catch. Ngidi fell on his neck and his head hit the ground hard. As soon as he fell, he caught his head and remained lying on the ground. Physio and medical staff immediately reached him. Initially, Ngidi seemed to be responding, which brought some relief, but after some time, his condition started deteriorating.

The medical staff took precautions and tried to keep Ngidi stable. During the initial examination, a neck brace was applied to keep his neck stable. A stretcher was first called to take him out of the field, but considering the seriousness of the situation, an ambulance had to be called on the field itself. He has been taken by ambulance to Max Hospital in Rajendra Nagar. According to initial information, he has suffered a neck injury, which is considered very serious.

Accident happened during batting of Punjab Kings

In the match, Delhi Capitals had scored 264 runs. In response, Punjab Kings made a fast start. Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh scored 36 runs in just 2 overs. Priyansh tried to play a big shot on the third ball of DC captain Akshar Patel’s third over but the contact was not good. The ball hung towards mid-off. Ngidi, standing there, tried to catch the catch while back paddling but he missed it and while falling, the back of his head hit the ground. After falling, he started groaning in pain, due to which there was silence in the field. The game was halted for about 15 minutes.

Vipraj Nigam replaced

After Ngidi got injured, Dushmanta Chameera fielded in his place. It was understood that DC would use Chameera as a concussion substitute. However, Ngidi was replaced by Vipraj Nigam.
