The Karnataka Court has accepted Ranveer Singh’s undertaking of visiting the Chamundi hill temple in the Kantara controversy case.

The judge said that he will close the case after recording Ranveer Singh’s apology and undertaking to visit the temple. The court will direct the actor to visit the temple in four weeks time.

The court was hearing a plea filed by the actor to quash the case against him over the mimicry and comments at the International Film Festival of India events held in Goa

A criminal case was filed against the actor under section 196, section 299 and 302 of the BNS act.
After which the actor moved court stating that he didn’t mean to hurt anyone and even issued a public apology on social media. He also filed an affidavit that he would visit the Chamundi Hills

It may be noted that the complainant in the case urged that court to warn celebrities from making comments that could hurt the public’s religious comments.

What is the Kantara controversy?

The Kantara controversy began after actor Ranveer Singh was accused of hurting religious sentiments by allegedly imitating a sacred Daiva ritual linked to Kantara: Chapter 1.

The incident reportedly took place during a public event attended by actor-director Rishab Shetty. During the performance, Ranveer Singh recreated parts of the ritual, which reportedly made Rishab Shetty uncomfortable, with the filmmaker also seen signalling him to stop.
The incident later triggered criticism, following which a legal notice and criminal complaint were filed against the actor in Karnataka. The matter is currently being heard in court.
