Rashid Khan’s last two seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have been very bad. This champion bowler of Gujarat Titans (GT) took 10 wickets in 12 matches in IPL 2024. During this period his economy was 8.40. In the next season i.e. IPL 2025, Rashid played 15 matches, in which he got only 9 successes. His economy was 9.34. For the first time in his 9-year IPL career, he was so expensive.
In the current season, Rashid has taken 8 wickets in 8 matches but he has looked colorless. This season his economy has definitely been below 9 but his bowling has not shown that edge. On Sunday (April 26), against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he gave away 21 runs in an over when CSK could score only 75 runs after losing 4 wickets in 14 overs.
This happened for the first time in IPL history
CSK team was struggling when invited to bat first at Chepauk Stadium. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was standing at one end but the runs were not coming fast. Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Manav Suthar, Arshad Khan and Jason Holder had troubled the CSK batsmen. It seemed that CSK would remain below 120, then Rashid, who came in the 15th over, shifted the entire momentum. In his first over, he not only hit two fours and a six but also bowled a down the leg ball, which went for a four.
Rashid scored 21 runs in this over. CSK reached 96 runs at the end of 15 overs. After this, GT captain Shubman Gill did not use him in the bowling attack again. Even the last over of CSK’s innings was bowled by young spinner Manav Suthar but Rashid was not given the bowling and this was the first time in IPL history that Rashid bowled only 1 over in a match.
