Chennai. Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by eight wickets in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Sunday.
In the match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, CSK, who came to bat first after losing the toss, scored 158 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, GT won by scoring 162 runs for 2 wickets in 16.4 overs.
With this victory, Gujarat team has reached fifth position in the points table. The team has eight points from eight matches with four wins and four losses. Whereas Chennai team has slipped to number six in the points table. The team has six points from eight matches with three wins and five losses.
While chasing the target, Gujarat got a good start by captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan. Both the batsmen scored quick runs in the powerplay and took the team’s score to 55 runs in the first six overs.
The team’s first wicket fell in the seventh over. Captain Gill was out after scoring 33 runs in 23 balls. He made a partnership of 58 runs with Sudarshan for the first wicket.
After the fall of one wicket, Sudarshan along with Jos Buttler took the innings forward. Sudarshan completed his half-century while batting attractively.
Sudarshan returned to the pavilion after scoring 87 runs in 46 balls with the help of seven sixes and four fours. After this, Jos Buttler gave the team victory by hitting a six. Butler scored unbeaten 39 runs in 30 balls with the help of four fours and one six.
Noor Ahmed and Akil Hussain took one wicket each for CSK. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings scored 158 runs at the loss of seven wickets. The team had a bad start. In the powerplay itself, CSK lost three wickets and scored only 28 runs.
Dewald Brevis was also out in the ninth over after scoring only two runs. After this, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad took over the innings along with Shivam Dubey. There was a partnership of 59 runs between Gaikwad and Dubey.
Dubey was clean bowled while playing a big shot. He scored 22 runs in 17 balls. In the end, Karthik Sharma scored 15 runs in 9 balls and Jamie Overton scored 18 runs in 6 balls.
Captain Gaikwad returned unbeaten after scoring 74 runs in 60 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes. For Gujarat, Kagiso Rabada took three wickets and Arshad Khan took two wickets. Mohammad Siraj and Manav Suthar got one wicket each.
