In a major blow for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2026 edition, Lungi Ngidi has sustained a serious head injury while trying to take a catch in the last fixture against Punjab Kings. The South African pace sensation had a bad fall, had to be stretchered and rushed to the ambulance. Whether he is able to play in the remainder of the league is the concern for the Delhi franchise.
Delhi Capitals are not enjoying a great run in the competition having won only 3 of the 7 games played so far, and stand sixth in the points table. The Delhi bowling lineup has been struggling and the absence of Ngidi can put them in further trouble while they are struggling to seal a spot in the playoffs. The team should find a quick replacement for the speedster, preferably someone with the similar skill set.
3 Players DC Could Sign if Lungi Ngidi is Ruled Out of IPL 2026
Will O'Rourke
A young quick from New Zealand, Will O'Rourke could be a replacement for Lungi Ngidi in Delhi Capitals. The New Zealander is quite tall and possesses the ability to hit good length, and is quite decent on the line. He represented Lucknow Super Giants last season and managed to show a bit of his ability. The pacer did not find any bidders at the mini-auction but has a good potential to excel in the Delhi bowling attack.

Naveen-ul-Haq
A further name who has already proved their worth in the IPL would be Naveen-ul-Haq. His subtle variations and the control he exhibits during pressure situations is the best skill that Afghanistan pacer brings. However, his fitness still remains a doubt as he was forced out of the 2026 T20 World Cup with injury and he is currently undergoing rehabilitation. If fit enough Delhi Capitals might look to bring him into the side if needed as a replacement due to his experience in Indian conditions.
Alzarri Joseph
Another player whichDelhi Capitals might consider would be Alzarri Joseph. The tall West Indies pacer, known for his express pace, can certainly hit the deck hard. Though his stint with IPL ended at the wrong time, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru having released him prior to auctions where he remained unsold after the 2024 season where he was only picked up to be released after an average campaign. The paceman can still make an impact for Delhi Capitals. He is an impactful bowler who can make the opposition think and would love to prove himself at this level again.
The choice would certainly be hard for Delhi Capitals if Ngidi is ruled out, but finding a direct replacement for a player of such quality is quite tough; these three bowlers all have their unique qualities which would prove a benefit in the Delhi Capitals lineup.
