Tel Aviv. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is already facing criticism over the Iran War. Now, Netanyahu’s troubles are set to worsen. The political parties of former Israeli Prime Ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid have merged. Together, they have formed a new party called “New Together,” which will be led by Naftali Bennett.

The two leaders announced the merger on Saturday.
According to a report in the Jerusalem Post, the two leaders announced the merger of their respective parties, Yes Atid and Bennett 2026, on Saturday. General elections are scheduled for next October in Israel. The leaders of both parties will contest the elections under the banner of New Together. This merger is expected to strengthen the opposition bloc and change the Israeli political landscape.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called it a historic step. He said, “I am taking the most patriotic and Zionist step I have ever taken for my country.” He said that this unity marks the end of an era of division. Yair Lapid also appealed to voters to support the new party. He said that the country should unite behind Naftali Bennett. He cited the example of Hungary, where a united opposition won.

The new party has announced a high-level investigation into the October 7 attacks.
It has announced that it will form a coalition only with Jewish parties and there will be no coalition with Arab parties. The new party has made it clear that if it comes to power, its government will set up a commission to investigate the October 7 attacks. Also, a universal military conscription law will be implemented. Both leaders have decided to increase the Prime Minister’s term to eight years. Bennett and Lapid, on the occasion of the merger of their parties, also invited Yashar Party leader Eizenkot to join the coalition.
