In the 39th match of IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals will host Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Challengers are at the second place and will be keen to win the clash and stay in top two, whereas the Delhi Capitals are struggling to win more games than they lose at the halfway mark of the season but are still in the race for the playoffs. The match will be crucial for both the sides.
Delhi Capitals have struggled at the halfway stage with more losses than wins and have endured a torrid period, losing four of their last five games. The latest loss came at the hands of Punjab Kings, who successfully chased a gargantuan score of 265 and had only failed to defend when it mattered the most. Their bowling and fielding have been suspect and their bowling has been a concern with injuries to key personnel, including Lungi Ngidi who has had a freak accident and the absence of Mitchell Starc. However, their batting has performed at times and they would be hoping to have a better finish at home.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been a fairly well-balanced team this season and the batting unit has provided a consistent support throughout the season with Virat Kohli still running at the sixth place for the Orange cap. The likes of Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar have done well to provide stability in the middle order. In terms of their bowling unit, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar in form and with the availability of Josh Hazlewood, they seem to have a more balanced bowling attack. With high scores expected on a Delhi track, it'll be interesting to see how their bowling fares under pressure.
At the toss, Bengaluru have won and chose to bowl first.
Here's what the captains said at the toss:
Axar Patel: I would have fielded if I won the toss. The ground dimensions are small, the pitch also gets better, so we would have chased as well. In the IPL, you score 264 and loss, but it is a long tournament is long, we had a good game with bat and ball, if we had held our chances then the result would be different. You need to keep continuing doing the work, even our best fielders drop catches, so luck is not on our side but we can sit around thinking about it. We have two fast bowlers - Chameera and Jamieson are playing. We have to strike in the powerplay, though Mukesh has done well, he needs a break and we are bringing in international bowlers.
Rajat Patidar: We will bowl first. This venue is a high-scoring ground, it will not make much difference, we will try to put them under pressure in the second innings. The most important thing is different players coming up and deliverying in different matches. We have played some good cricket and continue to carry that momentum. It is in the past, we are looking to play good cricket.
