New Delhi: Sri Lanka Cricket seeks to formalise its chief Shammi Silva’s ouster on Tuesday after a directive from the country’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
SLC has called for a special executive committee meeting on Tuesday to formalise Silva’s ouster once Dissanayake made it clear that Silva must make way for a new governance committee for cricket.
Apart from Silva’s removal, SLC’s executive committee members could also tender mass resignation in order for fresh elections to happen.
The SLC committee led by Silva’s tenure ran till May of 2027 but is set to relinquish office after poor performances of the national team in ICC tournaments.
Dissatisfaction of players and underperformance piled the pressure on Silva as the government also withheld support.
Silva came into power in 2019 winning by a majority margin of member votes got re-elected uncontested in 2021, 2023 and 2025.
He also became president of the Asian Cricket Council after India’s Jay Shah’s term ended in 2025.
The ICC’s charter doesn’t allow government interference and would keenly follow the proceedings.
Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, which they co-hosted with India.
Following their ouster from the Super 8s stage, coach Sanath Jayasauriua stepped down.
