New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru talisman Virat Kohli completed 9000 runs in their IPL 2026 match on Monday, becoming the first batter to do so and extending his position as the leading scorer in the tournament as they win by nine wickets.
The former RCB skipper needed only 11 runs to reach the landmark and he did it during RCB’s 76-run chase at the Arun Jaitley stadium.
RCB chased down the paltry target in 6.3 overs with Kohli finishing off the chase with successive sixes off T Natarajan.
The win lifted RCB to second position in the standings with 12 points from eight matches, only one point behind leaders Punjab Kings.
RCB’s smooth victory was set up by their veteran pace duo of Josh Hazlewood (4/12 in 3.3 overs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5 in 3 overs).
Their swing and seam bowling reduced DC to 13 for six in the manadatory six overs of powerplay, the lowest total ever in the tournament’s history during this phase of play.
Before the DC clash, Kohli has amassed 8,989 runs at an average of 39.95 and a strike rate of 133.76 with the help of 66 half centuries and eight hundreds, the most by any batter in IPL history.
In the ongoing 2026 edition, the opener has been in stellar form with 328 runs in seven matches, at an average of 54.66 and a strike rate of 162.18.
