Good Morning Britain issued a bombshell royal update just one day into King Charles' state visit to the US. On Tuesday morning (April 28), Susanna Reid and Ed Balls returned to the airwaves to discover the latest stories that hit the headlines. It didn't take long for things to turn political as the dynamic duo welcomed political commentator Kevin Maguire onto the show.

As the panel discussed the monarch's plans during his state visit, reports emerged that President Donald Trump is related to the Royal Family. According to research conducted by the Daily Mail, the Republican leader and King Charles share a common ancestor in the third Earl of Lennox, a great-grandson of King James II of Scotland, making King Charles and Trump 15th cousins.

Ahead of researcher Robert Hardman's appearance on the ITV show, Ed hinted that this new revelation could help rebuild the special relationship between the US and the UK. He began: "Our King and Donald Trump are 15th cousins, they're actually relatives.

"Doesn't it just make you change your whole view of Donald Trump? He's kind of part of our broader Royal Family. Doesn't it give you a patriotic surge when you think of Donald?" To which Maguire quipped: "Maybe it'll change my mind about King Charles.

"This is why he can be a bit cantankerous in private at times because he's related to Donald Trump. It's all beginning to make sense." It didn't take long for viewers to flock to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their thoughts on the royal revelation online.

One user penned: "You could say if you go back 300,000 years to the first humans, then in reality we are all related in some way, as we all stemmed from them. Just saying."

Another agreed: "Good God, what absolute nonsense! So what! We are probably all distantly related in some shape or form [eyes rolling emoji]." A third claimed: "44 out of 45 presidents are descendants of King John of England."

However, King Charles and President Trump's shared forebear met an unfortunate end. Lord Lennox was involved in a vicious power struggle for control over the infant King James V and was eventually defeated at the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge in 1526.

After being taken prisoner, he was murdered by a rival laird known as the Bastard of Arran. His son, the 4th Earl of Lennox, went on to produce Lord Darnley, husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. Their son became King James I of England, from whom the Stuarts and, eventually, the House of Windsor would all descend.
