BJP’s clean sweep in Gujarat between Bengal and Assam elections, hoisted flag on 15 municipal corporations

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, BJP has performed tremendously in the local body elections of Gujarat. The party has won all the 15 municipal corporations. The special thing is that BJP has won more than 50% seats in every corporation.

BJP’s huge victory in Gujarat 

Let us tell you that according to the latest data of the State Election Commission, the ruling party won majority in many municipal corporations including Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Karamsad-Anand, Nadiad, Navsari, Vapi, Surat and Morbi. In Morbi Municipal Corporation, BJP made a clean sweep and won all 52 seats.

Last Sunday (26 April 2026), voting was held for 15 Municipal Corporations, 84 Municipal Corporations, 34 District Panchayats and 260 Taluka Panchayats. This is being considered as the biggest electoral process in the state before the assembly elections to be held next year. More than 4.18 crore voters exercised their franchise on about 9,200 seats.

Where and how much voting took place? 

According to Election Commission data, 55.1% voting took place in municipal corporations. Voting was recorded at 65.53% in municipalities, 66.64% in district panchayats and 67.26% in taluka panchayats. Talking about municipal corporations, Gandhidham in Kutch had the lowest turnout of 46.03%. Whereas in Vapi of Valsad, maximum 72.29% votes were cast. 51.81% voting was recorded in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

There was competition between BJP, Congress and AAP 

It is noteworthy that BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party were in the main contest in these elections. AIMIM had also fielded its candidates in many areas. But in the results, BJP left all the parties behind. This victory is being considered as a big boost for BJP before the assembly elections. The party winning more than 50% seats in every municipal corporation shows the grassroots hold of the organization.

Also, let us tell you that elections were held for the first time in 9 newly formed municipal corporations including Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar and Surendranagar. These elections were conducted under the revised rules of OBC reservation. For this, large-scale delimitation and reorganization of wards was done in many districts.
