UK households are being urged to put cling film in their fridge before this Friday as hot weather returns.
The country is bracing for another spring scorcher this Friday (May 1) when temperatures are expected to climb as high as 25C in London and hit 23C to 24C in other parts of England, according to the Met Office.
But when temperatures rise, one key household appliance can start to struggle - the fridge.
According to kitchen expert Michael Forbes, from kitchen white goods firm AEG, food will spoil more quickly in hot weather if your fridge isn't properly sealed.
That's why households should check their fridge seals before hot weather returns, and one way to do so is to use cling film.
Mr Forbes explains: "As temperatures across the UK start to rise, so do the hosting opportunities - from last-minute dinners to long Sunday lunches and drinks with loved ones. But with extra use, your fridge can quickly become strained, leading to spills, clutter and lingering odours, especially in warmer weather.
"A quick way to check your fridge seal is working properly is the cling film test. Place a strip of it half inside and half outside the fridge, then close the door. If it slides out easily or falls free, then that section of your fridge is not sealed."
Despite hot weather at the end of the week, the Met Office says 'spring warmth' and sunny weather will give way next week to more changeable conditions.
It said in its latest forecast: "From midweek, high pressure brings a return to largely dry and fine weather. Wednesday and Thursday will see plenty of sunshine for many, though it will become windier in southern areas, with coastal gales possible in parts of the south west.
"Later Thursday into Friday, conditions become more unsettled. Rain and showers are expected to spread from the south and west, with the potential for some heavy and thundery bursts. Where sunshine persists ahead of this, it will feel warm and humid, especially in southern and central parts of England.
"Into the weekend, a more changeable pattern is likely, bringing showers, as well as sunnier intervals. This mix of sunshine and showers is expected to remain throughout Sunday and Monday."
