Eder Militao, the Brazilian defender for Real Madrid, will not participate in the upcoming World Cup due to a recent hamstring surgery performed on Tuesday.
Real Madrid confirmed in an official statement, "Eder Militao underwent successful surgery today for a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg," although they did not disclose the exact duration of his recovery.
The surgery took place at a clinic in Finland, overseen by the club's medical team. Reports from both Spanish and Brazilian media suggest that Militao is likely to be out of action for a minimum of five months.
As a result, he is anticipated to miss the chance to represent Brazil, the record five-time World Cup champions, in the tournament scheduled this summer across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Militao suffered the injury during a La Liga match against Alaves last week.
Since joining Real Madrid from Porto in 2019, Militao has faced significant injury challenges, including two major setbacks due to cruciate ligament tears.
