Rohit Sharma's return to the Mumbai Indians XI is one of the big discussion points leading up to their IPL 2026 encounter with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The veteran opener has been out with injury, and his absence from the top of the order has been palpably missed.
The MI camp has now provided an update, however it has still not provided a definitive answer. The Mumbai Indians have confirmed that his availability for the game, will only be decided at the time of the toss. "He continues to progress. Any call on his availability (in the game versus SRH) would be taken at the toss tomorrow", a MI spokesman stated.
Why Rohit Sharma is not Playing?
Rohit has been sidelined following a hamstring injury sustained during the home encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12th. The right hander has missed the last three fixtures.
In Rohit's absence, the Mumbai Indians have struggled to get consistent opening partnerships. Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Danish Malewar have all been tested as openers. Malewar has found the going very tough, making scores of 2 and 0 in his last two outings. This poor form from the openers, has put increased responsibility on the middle order.
Despite missing a number of games this season, Rohit has remained Mumbai's 4th highest run-scorer. He has amassed 137 runs this season at a formidable average of 45.66 and at a strike rate of 165.

MI Wait on Final Call
So far it has not been declared on the availability of Rohit for this match against SRH. Management of MI are being pragmatic and do not want to risk rushing him back before being absolutely fit.
MI have got enough concerns in other departments as Mitchell Santner has been ruled out and is replaced by Keshav Maharaj and there are also question marks about Will Jacks place.
The decision to pick Rohit is one that would be taken once his fitness is analyzed near the match. For now, the message has not brought any more conclusive thoughts, but fans are surely given some hopes.
MI would be desperate to find some form and consistency and would rely heavily on the services of their captain. However till the time of toss it remains unknown about the presence of Rohit in the playing XI.
