Out of 30 prisoners, 15 had broken the strike, 15 are still sitting on strike.
Jaipur. 14 prisoners have been sitting on hunger strike for several days in the jail of Bayana town of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. Of these, nine prisoners have been admitted to the hospital for treatment after their health deteriorated. Jail officials gave this information on Tuesday. Officials said that nine of the 14 prisoners who were on hunger strike demanding to be shifted to another jail have been sent to Bharatpur hospital for treatment. While the remaining five are being treated under the supervision of doctors inside the jail premises.
Jailer Kedar Sharma said that out of the 30 prisoners recently transferred to Bayana sub-jail, 15 broke the strike after persuasion, but 14 are still on hunger strike. One prisoner has been released, he said. The prisoners who are on hunger strike are demanding to be sent to Sewar Central Jail as better facilities are available there. He has started this agitation alleging lack of basic facilities in Bayana sub jail.
According to officials, due to excess number of prisoners in the jail, these prisoners were transferred from Gangapur City Jail to Bayana on April 22. Soon after the transfer, there was dissatisfaction among the prisoners regarding the prison arrangements which later took the form of a hunger strike.
Police said that two teams have been deployed under the supervision of doctors and necessary treatment is being provided to the prisoners. Meanwhile, administrative officials visited the jail and talked to the striking prisoners and asked them to end the strike. Sharma said, efforts are being made at the administrative level to resolve the issue. Discussions are going on at the highest level on the demand for transfer.
