Cleetis Mack, a member of the rap group Digital Underground, has died suddenly. Representatives for the group confirmed the news to TMZ, stating that Mack's passing was wholly unexpected.

They added that his death "leaves a void in our Digital Underground family and in our hearts that can never truly be filled." In a statement, they said that Mack was "more than a part of the movement, he was part of the soul behind it, bringing warmth, loyalty, and quiet strength to everyone around him. He will always be remembered by his humility, love, and spirited energy, qualities that lifted those around him and made a lasting impression on all who knew him." No cause of death has been revealed at this time. Mack's age has also yet to be publicly confirmed.

Fans online added to the tributes. One wrote: "RIP... do the humpty dance with Shock G for us." While another added: "I remember the Van with Clee & Numskull (Drink Alot) passing thru the 30's in East Oakland early 2000's. R I.P."

One more penned: "My homie Clee Mack! You will be missed my guy," as someone else wrote: "Such a big loss, will miss you and your vibe fam." Another person noted: "Dang. Almost the whole group gone now. R.I.P."

Widely known to fans as "Clee," Mack joined Digital Underground in 1993, several years after the Oakland, California outfit was established by Shock G, Chopmaster J, and Kenny-K.

Throughout his time with the group, Mack played a significant role in its ongoing development as one of hip-hop's most celebrated collectives.

His debut single with the group was "Wussup Wit the Luv," a track that featured Tupac Shakur. Digital Underground is broadly credited with helping propel Tupac's career into the spotlight, most notably through the track "Same Song," which marked his recording debut.

His death comes just a few years after founding member Shock G died suddenly too, back in April 2021. His death was later ruled an accidental overdose of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alcohol.
