Apple’s push into spatial computing has taken a major leap into healthcare. The Apple Vision Pro has been used to carry out cataract surgery in the first instance ever in the world and this is a major milestone to medical technology and immersive computing. This was performed in New York with ophthalmologist Eric Rosenberg, and the way fancy visualization devices are starting to transform operating rooms.
The innovation is also indicative of the wider approach of Apple to place its luxurious headset outside consumer entertainment. Although the device has yet to gain widespread use due to its high cost of $3,499 and its large size, its accuracy and immersion experiences are already becoming useful in certain industries, such as medicine. The recent trend is indicative of a new trend toward real-world, high-impact applications in which performance is more important than cost considerations.
