Jill Halfpenny has teased that her upcoming Channel 5 thriller Number One Fan contains a twist.
Billed as "a gripping new thriller where fame hides dangerous secrets", the four-part drama is set against the backdrop of daytime television. Former Strictly winner Jill takes on the role of TV presenter Lucy Logan, while Coronation Street favourite Sally Lindsay portrays her obsessive fan Donna.
With the release just around the corner, Jill took to Instagram to share a few tantalising details, hinting that viewers are in for a surprise, reports the Mirror.
"It's a real page turner," the actress revealed. "And I think you very much jump between whose side you're on.
"The thing that you expect is going to happen doesn't happen. Something else happens that really surprises you and takes you somewhere else."
Channel 5 recently dropped a trailer for the Clapperboard Studios production, which features Donna declaring "I'm your number one fan" following a chance encounter with the celebrated TV star.
She then proceeds to ingratiate herself into the presenter's life, with unease steadily building as Lucy begins to sense that something isn't quite right.
"It has to stop," Lucy is heard saying, after admitting that Donna is starting to "creep me out". "She seems to be everywhere I go," she continues.
Viewers have already declared they "can't wait" for the series to air, with many describing it as looking thoroughly "creepy". One fan posted on Instagram after Jill teased details: "Ooooooohhhh can't wait, Jill, to watch it."
"This is a dream come true, CANNOT WAIT!!!" exclaimed another, while someone else posted: "This looks so good."
Another viewer said the trailer had them "hooked". "I'm here for this!" remarked another, as somebody else commented: "I definitely need to see this, @jillhalfpenny you are a fantastic actor and I love your work!"
When the series was announced, Clapperboard MD Mike Benson said: "We've obviously worked numerous times with two of the most talented actresses in the country in Sally and Jill - but never before in the same show.
"Seeing them both together on screen - and in two very surprising roles - is something I know viewers will be every bit as excited about as we are."
Number One Fan will be on Channel 5 at 9pm on May 4.
