New Delhi: These days there is a ruckus in Delhi politics regarding women’s reservation. When BJP Mahila Morcha took out a torch procession in the inner circle of Connaught Place, the heart of the capital, everyone’s eyes were fixed on one face – Swati Maliwal. After leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Swati appeared for the first time on a public platform of BJP and the revelations she made from there have created an earthquake in the political circles.
“I was told to drop the women’s bill.”
Roaring from the stage, Swati Maliwal made serious allegations against her old party. He told what was AAP’s stand regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill for which the women of the country had been waiting for decades. Swati said, “I was in that party till two days ago, where I was given clear instructions not to support the Women’s Bill. I was not even given a chance to speak in Parliament for two years.”
Swati emotionally revealed that this was the real reason for her resignation. She said, “When I received instructions that the Women’s Reservation Bill had to be dropped somehow, on the same day I had decided that I would no longer be in this party and I decided to resign.” Praising PM Modi, he said that this bill will provide women their real rights.
Neighboring countries have overtaken India!
Citing statistics, Swati Maliwal said that currently the participation of women in the Parliament of India is only 14.4 percent. He sarcastically said that in this matter even small neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal have gone ahead of us. He alleged that the opposition has deliberately delayed and diverted this bill for the last 30 years.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Virendra Sachdeva’s attack on the opposition
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also took part in this torch procession. She said that even after so many years of independence, women have to struggle for their rights. He reminded that this bill came in the Lok Sabha seven times, but every time the opposition created an uproar. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva made it clear that after delimitation the seats will increase, not decrease, hence the fear and opposition of the opposition is baseless.
Bansuri Swaraj explained the mathematics of reservation
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, in a special conversation with ABP News, raised questions on the ‘double attitude’ of the opposition. He said that the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’ was passed unanimously by everyone, but now the opposition is going back on its own promise. Swaraj clarified that there is already a provision for reservation for SC/ST women and OBC reservation requires a separate constitutional process. He alleged that the opposition is trying to divide women, sometimes in the name of Muslim and sometimes in the name of OBC.
In this demonstration held in Connaught Place, thousands of women workers showed solidarity by holding torches. Swati Maliwal’s presence has not only brought this entire program into discussion but has also changed the equations ahead of the Delhi Municipal Corporation and Assembly elections.
