The ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup 2027 is now receiving attention because IPL 2026 has reached its peak. The upcoming major tournament has brought increased discussions about the future of India's senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who are both active cricket stars. The 2027 ODI World Cup will be hosted by South Africa Zimbabwe and Namibia which will feature 14 teams competing in 54 matches throughout the tournament.
South Africa and Zimbabwe will co-host the tournament for the second time after their first joint event in 2003 while Namibia will host World Cup matches for the first time in its history. The ongoing argument about whether Virat Kohli and Rohit will join the 2027 team has reached new heights when Shikhar Dhawan expressed his opinion. He believes both players should remain in India’s plans.
He said that World Cup tournaments require players to maintain their composure while they track the progress of the game which experienced players bring as their primary asset. The situation still contains unresolved issues. Both Kohli and Rohit retired from Test cricket earlier this year and now play fewer ODIs because of the changing cricket schedule.
Rohit Sharma will reach his 40s in 2027 while Kohli will enter his late 30s. The upcoming demanding event will raise questions about how to handle fitness needs and workload requirements. Virat Kohli has maintained remarkable consistency in ODIs. He produced excellent performances during the series against South Africa and New Zealand before the start of IPL 2026.
In the New Zealand series, Kohli played 3 innings and scored 240 runs at an average of 80.00 with a strike rate of 105.26. He played three innings in the South Africa series and scored 302 runs with a strike rate of 117.05 and an average of 151. Rohit has experienced both success and failure in his performance. He performed poorly against New Zealand but showed strong improvement through his performance against South Africa.
Rohit scored 61 runs during his three batting appearances against New Zealand. The star batter achieved 146 runs during three innings in the SA series with a strike rate of 110.61 and an average of 48.67. The selectors will use the ODI matches against Afghanistan which take place after IPL 2026 to make their final decisions.

Kohli has maintained outstanding performance throughout IPL 2026 by consistently scoring runs at a high strike rate. The star batter has played 8 innings and scored 351 runs at an average of 58.50 and a strike rate of 162.50.
Rohit has participated in four matches which resulted in him scoring 137 runs through his batting at an average of 34.25 and a strike rate of 165.06. He has missed four matches because he suffered a hamstring injury during MI's game against Royal RCB on April 12. His fitness will remain closely monitored because it will determine his ability to continue playing soccer.
