I'm A Celebrity: All Stars needs to be cancelled. Anyone who watched the latest series, and the final last week, knows just how painfully awkward the whole ordeal was. Don't get me wrong, the car crash TV made for a plethora of juicy headlines and jaw-dropping viewing, but isn't there anything better ITV could be spending their money on?
Now, after rumours that ex-boxer David Haye is allegedly suing ITV to the tune of £10m, claiming the editing of I'm A Celebrity... South Africa has caused "irreparable damage to his brand," surely enough is enough.
The Sun claims Haye's solicitors have sent a letter to ITV demanding a full investigation into how the final edit was determined. Despite the I'm A Celeb spin-off being pre-recorded, the 45-year-old faced fierce backlash after making a series of remarks including those that were sexist, body-shaming and bullying.
He labelled co-star and series winner Adam Thomas "useless" after the Waterloo Road actor explained he was too unwell to participate in a trial. Adam suffers from psoriatic arthritis, a condition which causes painful joint inflammation and stiffness. Upon being informed of this, Haye declared he didn't "give a s**t".
This year felt tacky and like a pure money-making ploy for washed-up celebrities who needed a boost. No one, not even national treasure Harry Redknapp, seemed to have a good time. Everything was overshadowed by arguing, bullying and grotesque comments.
I, for one, am relieved it won't be back next year, and I hope ITV decide to shelve it for good and not bring it back in 2029 like it's been predicted. They can keep the usual series, but give up this version.
The original I'm A Celebrity works because it's an event, the start of the new year, like the BBC's The Traitors. It gives us something to watch while the evenings are still dark and money is tight after Christmas. Plus, the original series brings together fresh characters and opens up for new conversations.
What was the point of this series? It wasn't entertainment, it didn't elicit any moving epiphanies or meme worthy moments, the main takeaways were rows that left many of the cast in tears. Adam Thomas even revealed his brutal falling out with former footballer Jimmy Bullard has put him in therapy.
I'm clearly not the only one that thinks the boring show should be retired. Almost 2,000 Daily Express readers think the same.
With so much rubbish stuff going on in the world right now, why is a channel like ITV rehashing such a tired and demeaning show? Even Ant and Dec looked bored and embarrassed by the spectacle that was the final.
Do us all a favour, ITV, invest your money in new formats and series and leave this joke of a show behind.
