Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission has taken an important and tough decision with the aim of strengthening the safety of women and girls. The decision was taken after hearing a petition filed by a lawyer, seeking to ensure the safety of women in public places and institutions. The Commission has instructed the state government to implement 9-point guidelines, which can bring major changes in the social and institutional structure in the coming times.
New rules in dance, gym and yoga center
According to the new guidelines, it has now been made mandatory to have a female teacher to teach dance to girls in any institute. Similarly, it will be necessary to appoint female trainers in gyms, yoga centers and theater arts centres. This step has been taken especially to increase the security of women at those places where they visit regularly. Besides, it has also been made mandatory to get police verification done for all the trainers, so that any kind of criminal activities can be stopped.
Special instructions for boutiques and shops
Strict rules have also been made for businesses to women. Now only female tailors will measure the clothes of female customers at boutique centres. Apart from this, it will be mandatory to have female employees in shops selling women’s clothes. This will provide a more secure and comfortable environment to the customers.
Emphasis on CCTV and security system
It has been made mandatory to have CCTV cameras and DVR systems in all coaching centres, gyms, yoga classes and boutiques. This will ensure that in case of any untoward incident, immediate investigation is possible. Apart from this, provision of clean and safe washrooms has also been made mandatory in coaching institutes.
Changes in school buses and identification process
Keeping in mind the safety of school going girls, now the presence of female security personnel or female teachers will be necessary in school buses. At the same time, it has been made mandatory to submit photocopy of identity card like Aadhar card at the time of entry into the gym and yoga center, so that the identity of the people coming and going can be ensured.
Impact and importance
This decision is being considered a big and effective step towards women’s safety. This will not only increase self-confidence among women, but will also develop a safe environment in the society. However, institutions may face some challenges in implementing these rules, but in the long run this step will bring positive changes in the interest of women.
