Manchester United are reportedly looking to strengthen their attack in the summer transfer window, with a move for Rafael Leao being mooted. The winger has been linked with a Premier League switch in the past, but this time around AC Milan are said to be open to a sale.
The Rossoneri are looking to build an attack capable of competing on several fronts, but to do so, they will first need to raise funds. They are said to view Leao as a way of doing that, with Milan's valuation believed to be in the region of £43million.
However, according to Italian outlet La Gazzetta, Leao isn't United's first choice attacking option, with Morgan Rogers believed to be top of their shortlist instead. The ex-Manchester City starlet has impressed for Aston Villa, and is being linked with a move to one of Europe's biggest clubs.
United would certainly fit the bill in that department, not least because they're set for a return to the Champions League next season. Early estimations suggest it could be worth around £100m in revenue for the three-time European champions, allowing them to spend big in the transfer market.
They'll likely need that investment if they're to be successful in a move for Rogers, given the early signs are he'd cost at least double Leao's asking price. The Englishman is under contract until 2031, with suggestions Villa would hold out for at least £86m.
As such, it could see United explore alternative options, with Leao chief among them. Not least because La Gazzetta are hinting a swap deal involving Joshua Zirkzee could be on the cards.
Zirkzee has managed just four starts in the Premier League for United this season, and given they weren't involved in European action of any kind, it means minutes have been limited for the Dutchman. Zirkzee arrived at the club from Bologna in the summer of 2024, and there is talk about a potential return to Serie A when the transfer window opens.
Milan are in the market for a centre-forward, and have earmarked Zirkzee as a potential option. Including him in a Leao deal would help bring the cost down for United even further, with Manuel Ugarte and Marcus Rashford also mentioned as prospective targets.
