New Delhi. The legendary Indian golfer of his time, Vijay Kumar, died of a heart attack in his hometown Lucknow. He was 57 years old. Indian Open 2002 winner and four-time ‘Order of Merit’ champion Vijay was one of the most successful and respected players of Indian professional golf. Vijay started his career as a professional golfer in 1988. He dominated Indian domestic golf for more than a decade and won many titles during this period.
His victory at the Indian Open 2002 is particularly notable. He is one of nine Indian golfers to win the Indian Open. Vijay also represented India in the 1999 Alfred Dunhill Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland. DP World Professional Golf Tour of India President Kapil Dev described Vijay Kumar’s demise as a big loss for Indian golf.
