Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya gave a major update on the injury of senior batter Rohit Sharma as the five-time champions prepare to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in an IPL 2026 fixture.
Rohit Sharma has been sidelined from Mumbai Indians' playing XI in their last three matches with a hamstring issue. It has clearly affected the performances of the MI squad as they are having a forgetful season. And at the toss, Pandya confirmed that their veteran opener is yet to recover and cannot feature in the game.
"Rohit's gonna take a couple of more games. He's been trying, it's not up to exactly where he would want, so not available for the team," Hardik Pandya stated at the toss.
Rohit Sharma's Absence Continues
This implies that Rohit Sharma would at least miss the next two to three matches in the IPL 2026 and this would prove a massive blow for the Mumbai Indians team which has struggled to win matches. This situation comes in when they are already under immense pressure due to a slump in form and are losing matches regularly.
The opener sustained a hamstring injury at a time when the MI team was already reeling. His absence has brought some disruption in the batting order and the team has failed to be consistent in the top-order with the willow.
MI have only two victories in seven matches so far and have lost five matches while they are second to last in the points table with a net run rate of -0.736.

Mumbai Indians Under Pressure
Mumbai Indians have had an up and down sort of a season so far, the 103 run loss to Chennai Super Kings when they were bowled out for 104 in the 207 chase is hard to digest, but the 99 run win over the Gujarat Titans where they defended their score of 199 by bowling out the opposition for a paltry 100 is encouraging.
They have lost games to Punjab Kings (by 7 wickets), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (by 18 runs), a rain shortened affair to Rajasthan Royals (by 27 runs) and also against Delhi Capitals (by 6 wickets).
They seem to lack the cutting edge and the loss of experienced Rohit Sharma adds more woe. Mumbai will look to perform now to maintain their position and not slip out of the race to the playoffs. For now the Indians must carry on without Rohit and hope for the captain's return when he is fully fit.
