Mumbai: Raaka, starring Allu Arjun and directed by Atlee, has triggered an intense bidding war for distribution rights in northern markets such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, nearly a year ahead of its scheduled release.

Unprecedented demand for rights in Bihar and UP

According to sources close to the project, several distributors from Bihar have approached the makers to secure exclusive territorial rights at what is being described as an “unprecedented price”. The strong demand highlights Allu Arjun’s growing popularity in the Hindi-speaking belt.

The film, which also stars Deepika Padukone, is being positioned as a pan-India release and will be available in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Industry insiders say the scale of interest from northern distributors is unusual for a Telugu-led project at such an early stage, indicating the shifting dynamics of regional cinema’s reach.

Pushpa success drives northern craze

Much of this demand can be traced back to the massive success of Pushpa: The Rise and its sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule, which established Allu Arjun as a major force in the Hindi market.

Pushpa: The Rise initially released in Telugu but gained unexpected traction in North India after its Hindi dubbed version crossed ₹100 crore, particularly driven by strong performance in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The sequel went on to achieve even greater success, reportedly earning ₹812 crore in Hindi alone, cementing Arjun’s fan base in the region.

The overwhelming response even led to increased theatre activity in some areas, reflecting the scale of audience demand.

Strong fan base across Hindi belt

Trade analysts note that Allu Arjun enjoys a loyal following not just in Bihar, but also in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. This expanding fan base has made distributors increasingly confident about investing heavily in his upcoming projects.

The decision to release Raaka in multiple languages is also expected to maximise its reach and revenue potential across diverse markets.

High expectations from Atlee collaboration

The film marks Allu Arjun’s first collaboration with Atlee, known for delivering commercially successful and high-budget entertainers. The project was earlier referred to as AA22 x A6, indicating its significance as the 22nd film of Allu Arjun and the sixth directorial venture of Atlee.

Backed by Sun Pictures, Raaka is expected to be a large-scale cinematic spectacle.

Actor Ranveer Singh, who had earlier visited the sets, hinted at the film’s scale, stating that Atlee is creating something “never seen before” in Indian cinema.

Release plans and outlook

Raaka is slated for release in 2027, but the current buzz suggests that it is already on track to set new benchmarks in distribution deals.

Conclusion

The early bidding war for Raaka underscores the growing pan-India appeal of regional stars and the increasing integration of India’s film markets. With strong backing, a proven director, and a massive fan following, the film is poised to be one of the most anticipated releases in the coming years.
