In the scorching heat of summer, choosing the right air conditioner not only has a direct impact on comfort but also on the electricity bill and cooling experience. In such a situation, the biggest question is – take Portable AC or Window AC? Both the options are useful in their own way, but their difference is quite big in terms of cooling, price, power consumption and convenience of use. If you are thinking of buying a new AC, then we will explain to you in simple language which option can give you more cooling and better value.

Window AC vs Portable AC: Method to remove heat
Window AC provides faster cooling as it fits directly into the window and expels hot air directly out. All its heat producing parts are outside, due to which only cold air comes inside the room.

Whereas, portable AC is kept inside the room. It blows cool air from the front, but the rear and the exhaust pipe get quite hot. This increases the heat in the room and reduces the cooling capacity. Also, when it expels hot air, negative pressure is created in the room, which allows hot outside air to come in and slows down cooling.

Window AC vs Portable AC: Power and Airflow
Window ACs are generally more powerful. These have big fans and strong compressors, due to which they cool the air rapidly and spread it throughout the room. These are installed at a height, due to which the cold air spreads downwards and cooling occurs more evenly.

On the other hand, portable ACs are kept on the ground, due to which they have to work harder to deliver cool air to the top. Their fans and compressors are also small, so cooling may feel a little slow. Additionally, the exhaust pipe may also cause cooling loss.

Window AC vs Portable AC: Cooling Speed
Window AC is clearly ahead in terms of cooling speed. It dissipates heat better and can cool the room in about half the time that a portable AC of the same capacity takes longer. If you need instant cooling, window AC is a better option.

Window AC vs Portable AC: Price and Expenses
Window ACs in India usually cost between ₹25,000 to ₹40,000, making them affordable initially. At the same time, the price of portable AC can range from ₹ 30,000 to ₹ 50,000.

Talking about running cost, window ACs are more efficient and consume less electricity in daily use. Portable ACs are not able to expel heat properly, due to which they consume more electricity.
