New Delhi: At least 12 people were killed and more than 25 injured after a pickup vehicle carrying workers collided with an SUV in the Tirla area of Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on Wednesday night.
The accident occurred near a petrol pump in Chikliya around 8.30 pm. According to preliminary information, the pickup — reportedly carrying 40–45 passengers, far exceeding its capacity — lost control and veered onto the opposite side of the road, where it collided head-on with an oncoming Scorpio.
Several passengers thrown onto road
The impact was so severe that several passengers were thrown onto the road. Locals and petrol pump staff rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts before police arrived.
Officials said the injured were shifted to the district hospital in Dhar, where treatment is underway. According to reports, at least 13 of the injured are in critical condition.
Death toll likely to rise
The deceased include men, women and children, the toll could rise as some of the injured remain critical.
Police have sealed the accident site and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
