Synopsis

Sohum Shah has confirmed that Tumbbad 2 will release in theatres next year, along with unveiling a new poster. The sequel to the cult 2018 film Tumbbad will also feature Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a key role and is being directed by Adesh Prasad. Backed by Sohum Shah Films and Pen Studios, the film is expected to expand the original’s dark folklore world on a bigger scale after the strong response to its re-release.

Tumbbad 2 to hit theatres in 2027
Fans of Tumbbad have been waiting for a long time for any solid update on the sequel, and now there is finally something concrete. Actor-producer Sohum Shah has shared a fresh poster from Tumbbad 2, bringing the film back into conversation again after months of teasing and small hints. The new poster carries the same dark tone as the first film, with lines that point towards greed, consequences and something ominous building up again in that world.

Release date finally revealed

Along with the poster, the makers confirmed that Tumbbad 2 will hit theatres on December 3, 2027. Sharing the update, they wrote, “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises, the legacy of greed continues… Mark your calendars #Tumbbad2 arrives on 3. 12. 2027.”

Another major update is the addition of Nawazuddin Siddiqui to the cast. He is expected to play a key role, although details about his character are still not out.

Welcoming him, Sohum Shah had written, “We are pleased to announce that one of the finest actors of our time, @nawazuddin._siddiqui has joined #Tumbbad2. Welcome, Nawaz bhai! :).”

New director, bigger sequel plans

The sequel will be directed by Adesh Prasad, who was also associated with writing the original. The first film was directed by Rahi Anil Barve.

Tumbbad 2 is being produced under Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Pen Studios. The makers are planning a much larger scale this time, with reports of big sets, long shooting schedules and even international technicians working on the film.

While the story is still under wraps, the sequel is expected to go deeper into the mythology introduced in the first film. The focus will again be on themes like greed and power, but with a wider and more detailed world.

When Tumbbad released in 2018, it did not do well at the box office at first, even though it got strong reviews. Over time, it picked up a loyal audience and slowly became a cult film.

Its re-release in 2024 changed things in a big way, bringing it back to theatres and helping it earn around Rs 45–50 crore.
