ITV viewers issued the same complaint about the new drama A Taste For Murder just minutes after it aired on Wednesday (April 29). The crime series, based on Matt Baker's book of the same name, follows widowed Metropolitan Police officer DCI Joe Mottram (Warren Brown), who travels to Capri with his daughter Angelica (Beau Gadsdon) after the sudden death of his wife.

While attempting to repair broken family bonds with his in-laws, Gennaro (Urbano Barberini) and Elena Da Vinale (Phyllis Logan), who run a restaurant, Joe is dragged into a police case when a relative of the family is arrested for murder. Just minutes after the programme debuted on ITV, viewers complained that the storyline felt predictable, with some expressing frustration over the familiar dynamic of a father paired with a "stroppy" teenager.

One wrote: "Always has to be a stroppy teen child in everything."

Another posted: "#atasteformurder oh god, is it one of those that we will be able to write the script to ourselves?"

A third shared: "Single parent, stroppy teenager. A bit predictable so far."

A fourth weighed in: "Oh, Lord. After Secret Service, I was hoping for a better production. Hopes dashed, it seems."

Announcing they were switching off, another said: "Too slow. Too predictable. Too full of clichés. Giving it a miss."

During the first episode, Gennaro's nephew and sous-chef Luca Vinale (Alessandro Fella) was accused of murder after a man's body was found on the beach.

Joe immediately clashed with local Inspector Lara Sarrancino (Cristiana Dell'Anna) over the case, but fans speculated a romance could blossom between the two.

"So single dad will meet single female police detective and will hate each other at first but eventually fall in love," theorised one viewer as another echoed: "And now I suppose this person will be the new love interest."

Fans could be on the right path, as the synopsis confirms Joe and Lara form a reluctant partnership to solve the mysterious crimes infiltrating the seemingly idyllic island.

The synopsis continues: "Along the way, Joe learns to cook, and his exploration of Italian dishes provides insights and clues into the crimes he is investigating. His lessons with Gennaro and Elena in the kitchen ultimately help him to become a better cook, father and detective.

"As the investigations deepen, the idyllic veneer of the island cracks, exposing a web of deception that forces Joe to confront a truth he never saw coming - and which turns his world upside down."

All six episodes of A Taste For Murder are available to stream on ITVX.
