Annu Kapoor, a veteran Indian actor, singer, and television presenter, is known for his versatile career spanning over four decades. He is widely recognised for hosting the popular musical show Antakshari and for his award-winning performance in Vicky Donor. His filmography also includes notable titles such as Mr India, Tezaab, 7 Khoon Maaf, and Dream Girl 2. The actor has now shared a candid account of his experiences, revealing that there were instances when male actors lost control during intimate scenes and continued even after the director had called “cut.”
Annu Kapoor makes shocking claims about intimate scenes on-set
In a recent conversation on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube show, he opened up about the challenges of shooting intimate sequences, especially in earlier times when there were fewer safeguards on set. He shared that some actors would get carried away during such scenes, occasionally ignoring instructions to stop.
Recalling a particularly disturbing incident, Annu Kapoor described how one actor allegedly failed to pull back even after the scene had been cut. He said, "I have seen actors get aroused during intimate scenes and not stop, even when the director says cut. Many take advantage of such situations, but I have never done that. During one such scene, the hero got carried away. Even after ‘cut’ was called, he didn’t stop. The actress had to struggle to get away and run off. She was so shaken that she didn’t step out of her room for two days."
While Annu Kapoor refrained from naming the individuals involved, he maintained that the actress in question could confirm the episode if required.
The actor also spoke about how the industry functioned differently in the past. He pointed out that there were no intimacy coordinators or structured guidelines to ensure actors’ comfort and safety during such scenes. This lack of formal systems, he implied, sometimes created situations where boundaries could be crossed.
At the same time, Kapoor emphasised his own approach to handling intimate scenes. He noted that he has always tried to remain professional and mindful of his co-actors’ comfort. He explained that he relied on cues and timing to complete scenes efficiently and often checked in with fellow actors to ensure they felt at ease.
“There were no intimacy coaches back in our time. There were moments when people would take advantage of the situation during rehearsals. I’ve always been mindful, using certain cues to understand the timing of a scene and when to stop, so it can be completed smoothly in one shot. At times, I’ve also checked in with my co-actor, simply asking, ‘Are you okay?’" he added.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions in the film industry about the importance of consent, safety, and clear communication during sensitive scenes. In recent years, the introduction of intimacy coordinators and stricter on-set protocols has been seen as a step towards creating a safer and more respectful working environment.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Annu Kapoor remains active. He was last seen in Jolly LLB 3, alongside Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. Reports suggest that he is also set to feature in an upcoming comedy directed by Priyadarshan, with actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Saurabh Shukla expected to be part of the project.
