Pune Metro Line 3 | The much awaited Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line in Pune city is finally on its way to start. According to the information received, the operation of this metro will be started from June 15, 2026 in a phased manner. In the first phase, 12 stations will be opened for citizens, making travel in Pune’s IT hub Hinjewadi and the city center much easier.

After the start of this metro, thousands of IT employees, students and citizens commuting to and from Pune city from Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner, Balewadi area will get great relief from the traffic jam. At present, there is heavy traffic on this route every day, so passengers waste a lot of time in traffic.

These 12 stations will be started in the first phase

The first phase of Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro includes 12 stations namely Megapolis Society, Quadron Business Park, Dohler, Infosys Phase 2, Wipro Technologies Phase 2, Paul India, Shivaji Chowk, Courtyard by Marriott, Wakad Chowk, Balewadi Stadium, Orchid Hotel and Ramnagar.

The remaining 11 stations will be commissioned by October

According to officials, the work of the remaining 11 stations is in the final stages and is likely to be completed by October 2026. These include High Street, Balewadi Phata, Baner Village, Baner, Agricultural Research, Yashda, Savitribai Phule Pune University, RBI, Agricultural College, Shivajinagar and District Court. At present, traveling from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar by car, bus or two-wheeler takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the traffic. But after the metro starts, this journey can be completed in a very short time. So this is considered as a big comforting news for the IT employees going to the office every day.

FITE (Forum of IT Employees) organization was repeatedly demanding to start this route in a phased manner. As lakhs of employees in the Hinjewadi area have to bear the brunt of the traffic, there was a demand to start the completed phases immediately. Initially, the administration was planning to inaugurate the entire route simultaneously after its completion. But due to the delay in the work, it has now been decided to start the service in a phased manner. Pune Metro Line 3

Special Features of Pune Metro Line 3

Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 is 23.3 km long and will run from Megapolis Circle in Hinjewadi to Civil Court in Shivajinagar. This entire route will be elevated. Each train will have 3 coaches and can carry around 1,000 passengers at a time.
The project is being developed through Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited, Siemens and other partner companies. Interestingly, this will be the first metro in Pune to run on 750 volt DC third rail system. So there will be no need for electric wires going from above.
