In this season, there is a big risk of heatstroke for children and the elderly, in such a situation it becomes important to take care of health. In such a situation, Dr. Manoj Kumar Jain, Consultant, Internal Medicine, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Indore is explaining in detail.
- First of all, it is very important to keep the body hydrated. Drink adequate amount of water throughout the day. Apart from this, consume lemon water, coconut water, buttermilk and fruit juices. Along with cooling the body, they also provide essential electrolytes.
- Eat light and balanced food. In summer, heavy and fried food is difficult to digest, so consume water-rich fruits like green vegetables, salad, curd, watermelon, cucumber and seasonal fruits. These keep the body cool and also provide energy.
- Be careful while going out in the sun. If not necessary, avoid leaving the house between 12 noon and 4 pm. If you have to go out, use an umbrella, hat or scarf and don’t forget to apply sunscreen. Wear light colored and loose-fitting cotton clothes, so that air can flow to the body.
- Take bath regularly and keep the body clean. This prevents skin problems caused by sweat and bacteria. It is also important to get enough sleep, because the body gets tired quickly in summer.
what not to do in summer
- Some bad habits during the summer season can harm your health. First of all, do not leave the house on an empty stomach or without drinking water. This increases the risk of dizziness and weakness.
- Consuming too many cold beverages or ice cream can also be harmful. This may cause sore throat and digestive problems. Also, reduce caffeine and alcohol intake, as they dehydrate the body.
- Do not drink cold water or sit in the AC immediately after coming back from the hot sun. This causes sudden changes in body temperature, which can be harmful to health.
- Avoid excessive physical exertion or exercise, especially in the afternoon. If you want to exercise, do it in the morning or evening.
- Summer season is certainly challenging, but by taking a little caution and adopting right habits, we can easily face it.
- Small steps like a balanced diet, adequate water, and sun protection can protect your health. Remember, carelessness can prove costly in summer, so take special care of yourself and your family.
