SIM Card: If you don't recharge for 90 days, does your SIM card get deactivated immediately, or do you get some grace period?

SIM Card Rules: A question that frequently crosses people's minds is whether a SIM card truly gets deactivated after 90 days. This concern is particularly relevant when you keep a SIM card for secondary use; it is often observed that while people recharge their primary SIM on time, they neglect to recharge their secondary one. If you follow this practice, be aware that the reality is this: even if the SIM card isn't strictly "shut down" the moment 90 days are completed, it can certainly become "inactive."

If you do not send any SMS, make any calls, or recharge your number for a period of 90 days, the service provider may categorize your number as "inactive." Subsequently, outgoing services are suspended first, followed—after a certain interval—by the suspension of incoming services as well.

According to information provided on Jio's official website, if a SIM card remains inactive for 90 days but your main account retains a balance of ₹20, the company will deduct a portion of that balance to extend the "non-usage period" by another 30 days. As long as there is a balance remaining in your main account, deductions will continue, and the non-usage period will be extended accordingly; however, the moment the balance in your main account runs out, your number will be permanently deactivated.

What happens if you do *not* have a balance of ₹20?
Following the 90-day non-usage period, service providers typically grant customers a 15-day grace period. During this time, you can reactivate your number's services by paying a reactivation fee or by performing a recharge. However, if you fail to take any action even during this grace period, your number will be permanently disconnected after 15 days. Once a number has been disconnected, the company may eventually make that same number available in the market again for issuance to a different individual.
